Begining Rider Development Rides!

Do you want to get out and re-live the fun of riding a bike?  Do you admire the riders in the Tour de France?  Do you want to ride better, ride in a group, and increase your overall fitness?  We have got the answers for you.

The Cross Creek Cycling Club of Fayetteville is proud to sponsor 2 different weekly Beginning Rider Development rides.  Both rides begin the week of March 14 (the start of Daylight Savings Time).

There will be a "kick-off" and organizational meeting on Sat., Mar. 13, 12 noon, at The Bordeaux Spa Fitness Center, 3037G Boone Trail., Fayetteville, NC 28306.  Furman Hammonds will go over the basics (equipment, safety, fitness levels, etc), prior to the first ride on Sunday, March 14.

Sundays (start March 14).  9AM.   Rockfish Community Park, 2125 Lindsay Road, Raeford, NC 28376.  Furman Hammonds will be the group leader. Start Point

Mondays (start March 15).  6 PM.  Covenant Love Family Church parking lot, 420 Dunn Road, Fayetteville, NC 28312 (across from the C4 Saturday Club Ride start point).  Lora Lewis, USA Triathlon Certified Coach will be the group leader. Start Point

Be prepared to ride promptly at the designated start time. All riders must have a functioning bicycle.  Get your bike serviced at C4 major sponsor, Hawley's Bicycle World at 4874 Raeford Road, Fayetteville, 423-3145.  Riders must wear a helmet.  Bring something to drink.  Make sure you can self-recover by bringing an extra tube, air supply and cell phone.

Congratulations Mary and Tom!

The UMCA (Ultramarathon Cycling Association), which sanctions the various RAAM Qualifying events and runs the Race Across America has confirmed that Mary Florian has won first place female overall in the Sebring, FL 24 Hour RAAM Qualifier (non-drafting time trial) which was held Feb 13 by riding 370.4 miles in 24 hours. Tom also rode the exact same distance as Mary, 370.4miles in the 24 hour RAAM (non-drafting) Qualifier.  He placed second in his age group of men (55-59) and placed 9th male overall in the event

Additional info from Mary: There were 3 races going on simultaneously, so I'll help you sort through them all.  The first 2 races listed are the 12 hour and 24 hour solo events.  Drafting is allowed in these 2 races, though on this website it does not specify that.  The 3rd race is the  24 Hour RAAM Qualifier.  In that race (time trial) drafting is not allowed.  In order to be officially qualified to compete in the Race Across America (RAAM) riders must complete a certain number of miles.  The miles required stays the same every year and does not change no matter what the weather or riding conditions.  This year the wind was considered harsh and varied from 8 to 19mph throughout the 24 hour race. I rode 370.4 miles and became RAAM qualified at Sebring.  This is a distinction in the ultra-marathon cycling world.

The Sebring 12/24 Hour Cycling website does not yet have the results posted for the Feb 13 races.  I spoke with Jen Burnside, their communications person, on the phone just now and she said she has "no idea" when they will update their website.  Right now it only has the 2009 results.  She gave me the " racesmith.com " website to check for the results on.  Their website gives times and rankings of riders (standings) if you look under the "overall" results.  To find the distance ridden by each rider you have to go to the "age group" category. If you check around on the UMCA website, it tells what the RAAM is, tells what "ultracycling" is, etc.  This year I'm competing in what they call the "Ultra Cup" competition, in which the riders accumulate points for races.  At the end of the year, the one with the most points wins (in their category).  I'm also competing in the "Year Rounder Challenge".

Walk, Run, Bike, Swim to Afghanistan

Starting September 14th, C4 is exercising its' way to the East again this year. This time we are bound for Kabul, Afghansistan 7,222 miles away. Here is another way to have some goals from September 14th thru the Fall season. The team name is easy "Cross Creek Cycling Club". We need up to  20 members to participate per team and there are some alredy registered, so sign up and join C4 in this ongoing event. If more than 20 members want to participate, we can establish additional teams as needed.  Flyer....Entry Form....Website/Online Registration....MOI

Saturday Ride Groups

We are re-implementing the assignment/sign up for group leaders for the club ride on Saturdays. If you want to volunteer and sign up, please send Robert an email so he can add you. We would like a primary and an assistant who would become the primary if needed, otherwise will provide assistant help to the pripary on the ride. Once I get a few name I will either add a page with the info, add it to the event listing in the calendar, or both. First come first serve. This will be for all primary groups A, B, C & D. The "A" group os no longer the training competition group. The "A" group is like the other groups but at a higher fitness and skill level and will be a social ride, not a cometition ride. The group for race or compitition training will be a group itself with the focus of, well, competition training & skills development. The ride guidlelines will be updated to reflect the changes soon.

2009 C4 Clothing & Online Store Update 4!

I will take all pre-orders to Hawley's on Tuesday about lunch time and leave them for you to pick them up. If you want to purchase items that are extra, you can go to the new C4 Online Store. If you are a member and not yet registered on the site, please register and then email me letting me know so I can update your membership role. That way you will see and get member pricing on all items. If you are not a member or your membership has exired, you can renew or get a new membership in the store as well, Once you add a membership to your cart you will see the member pricing. The changes to the jersey I think everyone will really like a lot. The gloves are very comfortable and a good fit compred to the usual sizes you find in other brands. The cycling hats are, well, just cool.  Have a look at the artwork HERE!  Thanks, Robert
